Change a button or link

Every button and link on your site can go to one of your pages or to a web address. Click it in the builder, and a window opens where you change it.

  1. Open the page in the builder.
  2. Click the button. The Button window opens.
  3. Type the words in Button text.
  4. Under Links to, choose one of your pages. Or type a web address under Or a web address, like https://www.youtube.com/@yourchurch.
  5. To open the link in a new browser tab, switch on Open in a new tab. Use this for other websites, not your own pages.
  6. Click Save. The builder says “Button updated”.

Your site has one main button, such as Plan Your Visit. It shows in the header and on many pages. When you click it, the Primary button window opens instead.

  1. Click the main button.
  2. Type the words in Button label.
  3. Choose a page under Links to, or type a web address under Or a web address.
  4. Leave Site-wide button (global) on to change every main button on your site at once. Switch it off to change only the button you clicked.
  5. Click Save.

The main button in the header, the footer and the phone menu always follows the site-wide button. Its window has no Site-wide button (global) switch.

  1. Click the link. The builder says “This is a link” and names the website it opens.
  2. Click Edit link. The Button window opens.
  3. Change the web address, or choose one of your pages under Links to.
  4. Click Save.

To link words in a paragraph, see Format your text.

  • A page marked (draft) in Links to is not on your live site. A link to it goes nowhere, and Publish stops until you switch that page on or change the link. See Show or hide a page.
  • When you choose a page under Links to, the builder clears any web address in the box below.
  • Your menus, the announcement banner and your social links are changed in their own windows. See Change your menus, Link the banner to your event page and Add social links.

Your changes are on your live site after you publish. See Publish your site.

Tap the button or link. The same windows open.

  • “Pick a page, or enter a web address for this link.”: Choose a page under Links to, or type a web address.
  • “That is not a web address we can use. Start it with https://, or use mailto: or tel:.”: Type the whole address, starting with https://. For an email link, start with mailto:. For a phone link, start with tel:.
  • “Pages you turned off are still linked from the menus or the footer …”: A button or link points to a page that is off. Change the link, or switch the page on.
  • “This button is now on its own. The site-wide setting no longer changes it.”: You switched off Site-wide button (global). To make it follow the main button again, open it, switch the setting back on, and click Save.
