Change someone's role or remove them

Each person on your site has a role. The role decides what they can do. You can change a role, or take someone off the site, at any time.

Who can do this: the Owner or an Admin.

  • Editor: edits the site and publishes it, including sermons and audio. An Editor can see who else can edit, but cannot change anybody.
  • Admin: does everything an Editor does. An Admin can also invite people, remove them and change their roles. An Admin cannot change or remove the Owner.
  • Owner: does everything an Admin does. The Owner is the only one who handles billing, the site’s address, domains and taking the site down. Each site has exactly one Owner. See Make someone else the Owner.
  1. In the panel on the left, under Your account, click People. You can also click the round button at the top right, then People.
  2. Find the person in the list.
  3. In Role beside their name, choose Editor or Admin.

The change happens right away. A message says, for example, “… is an Admin now.” The Owner and every Admin get an email about it.

If you are an Admin and make yourself an Editor, the builder asks first. Click Make me an Editor to go ahead, or Keep me an Admin. Only the Owner or another Admin can make you an Admin again.

  1. Open People.
  2. Click Remove beside the person’s name.
  3. Click Remove again.

They cannot edit from that moment on. If they have the builder open, it stops at once. The Owner and every Admin get an email about it.

To take yourself off the site, click Remove beside your own name. The window asks Stop editing this site? Click Remove. Someone has to invite you again before you can edit.

An invitation shows in the list with its role and one of these:

  • Invited, has not signed in yet: The email went out. The person has not used it.
  • Invited, but the email did not send. Press Send again.: The invitation is saved, but our email did not go.
  • Invitation expired: 30 days went by.

Beside each invitation:

  • Click Send again to email it again. It lasts another 30 days.
  • Click Cancel to take it back.

To change the role of someone who has not signed in yet, click Cancel. Then invite them again with the right role. See Invite someone to help.

  • You see only the names, with no Role or Remove: You are an Editor. Ask the Owner or an Admin.
  • The Owner has no Role or Remove: Nobody can change or remove the Owner. The Owner can hand the site to an Admin first.
  • “Only the site’s Owner or an Admin can do that.”: Your role changed while the window was open. Ask the Owner or an Admin.
  • “That person cannot edit this site.”: Someone else already removed them. Close People and open it again.
