Change how sermons show

You choose how your sermons look in four places: the cards on the Sermons page, the filters above them, the sermon strip on your homepage, and each sermon’s own page. The same steps work for Bible classes and blog posts on their pages.

Each of these controls is a small button, called a chip, on the page. On a computer, point at the part of the page to see its chip. On a phone or tablet, the chips always show.

  1. In the panel on the left, under Pages, click Sermons.
  2. Point at the sermon cards. Click Cards & layout at their top right.
  3. Under Preview cards show, tick what each card shows: Series badge, Speaker, Date, Category and Thumbnail. Blog cards offer Author, Date, Category, Description and Featured image.
  4. Choose Columns: 1, 2 or 3.
  5. Click Save.

The page changes behind the window as you choose, so you can see it first.

  1. On the Sermons page, point at the filters above the cards. Click Edit filters.
  2. Under Visitors can filter by, tick Year, Series, Service and Speaker. On the Blog page, the choices are Year, Category and Author.
  3. Click Save.

At least one filter must stay on. A filter shows on your live site only when it has two or more choices, for example sermons from two different years. The search box above the filters is always there.

Section titled “Featured sermons on Home and Plan Your Visit”

Your homepage and your Plan Your Visit page each have a strip of three sermons. It shows your three newest sermons unless you choose others.

  1. In the panel on the left, under Pages, click Home or Plan Your Visit.
  2. Point at the sermon strip. Click Choose featured sermons.
  3. Tick up to three sermons. Use the search box to find them.
  4. Click Save.

To go back to the newest three, untick them all and click Save.

  1. In the panel on the left, under Content, click Sermons.
  2. Under On sermon pages, switch Series badge, Speaker, Date and Category on or off.
  3. Look at the page preview beside the list. It changes at once.
  4. Click Close.

Blog Posts has its own switches: Author, Date, Category and Featured image.

When you finish, click Publish. See Publish your site.

  • “Keep at least one filter on.”: Tick at least one filter.
  • “This strip shows three, so we kept the first three you picked.”: You ticked more than three. Untick the ones you do not want and save again.
  • A filter is missing on your site: All your sermons share the same value for it. It shows once there are two.
